How to Transfer a Domain Name
Summary
When you purchase a domain name, you purchase it from a registrar. The registrar manages your domain name and allows you to point your domain at DNS servers. JM Tech is a registrar, which means we are able to manage your domain name. If you already own a domain name and wish to move it to JM Tech, you will need to transfer your domain name into JM Tech.
If you already have a domain name with JM Tech and want to transfer it to another registrar (crazy I know, right?) then you will have to transfer your domain name out of JM Tech.
Transfer a Domain Name into JM Tech
You can transfer a domain name into JM Tech using the following steps:
- Log into your existing registrar’s site.
- Locate the domain name you wish to transfer.
- Get the Auth Code for the domain name.
- Purchase the Domain Name Transfer product from JM Tech and specify the Domain Name and Auth Code.
- Follow any approval prompts from the emails you receive.
Transfer a Domain Name out of JM Tech
You can transfer a domain name out of JM Tech using the following steps:
- Log into the JM Tech Customer Portal.
- Locate the domain name you wish to transfer.
- Get the Auth Code for the domain name.
- Contact your new registrar and give them the Auth Code as part of the domain transfer process.
- Follow any approval prompts from the emails you receive.
